Without You

I thought the holidays would be
a time of grief and misery,
a stark reminder of our loss,
a multiplying of the cost.
These poems about Christ are among my favorites, for writing them has brought me closer to Him. God gives good gifts, and I am grateful for His presence in each day. May these poems, focused on the Savior’s life, mission and example, communicate His love to everyone who scrolls through them. I thought the holidays would be
a time of grief and misery,
a stark reminder of our loss,
a multiplying of the cost.
In ways I cannot always see,
I know God watches out for me––
His loving instinct to protect
expressed as I might not expect.
Easter means more to those who know
the echo of a voice unheard,
the sound of silence in the air,
the loss that leaves no parting word.
The Savior in Gethsemane
consumed our sins on bended knee,
took every sorrow, every loss
and broke them on the rough-hewn cross.
I love those peaceful moments of the heart,
when mind and spirit finally run free,
the fleeting moments, seldom set apart,
when every soul is stilled to breathe, to be.
When my burden seems overlarge,
I flatter myself that I’m in charge.
Yet every cross was borne before
by One who comprehends much more
of trial and sorrow, grief and pain,
than I could ever hope to gain.
When I look in and cannot hide
the emptiness that reigns inside,
I wonder what has altered me,
erasing hues I used to see.
Our hearts are turned to thee, dear Lord,
on this and every Christmas day.
Thy loving grace hath set us free
to give sorrow and sin away.
