On Wishing, Well

Beauty is in the simple things
that ease into a willing heart:
Dusk falls, then calls forth starling wings
while sun and moon paint works of art.
Welcome to my collection of original nature poems. Everyone needs a “happy place,” and nature happens to be mine. That’s why I am making these nature poems available, to give poetry lovers a chance to explore and commune with the great outdoors, even when they have to stay inside. These poems make wonderful gifts, cards, and meditations…but please remember to email a request to me and include full copyright information on every copy made. (For internet use, a link back to the poem on this site is required.)

Beauty is in the simple things
that ease into a willing heart:
Dusk falls, then calls forth starling wings
while sun and moon paint works of art.
The ocean, so constant and steady,
swells in silence to fall with a roar.
Seaweed circles around in the eddy,
gets caught up or breaks free for the shore.
I’d like to just let go of me
and ride the waves across the sea––
willy-nilly, to and fro
with no particular place to go.
The ocean pounding on the shore
Awakens with a crashing roar
Reminds me that you are no more
O be not lulled by placid sea
nor lapping waves
of harmony
When my own tides are at low ebb,
I stand beside the sea.
Bright waves of truth I used to know
come washing over me.
I love those peaceful moments of the heart,
when mind and spirit finally run free,
the fleeting moments, seldom set apart,
when every soul is stilled to breathe, to be.
A rock is sure, reliable,
predictable and sane.
Its nature, set in solid stone,
shows little wax or wane.
