Mary’s Nativity

I wonder how they felt that night
as they attended there.
Were they filled with sacred sentiment
to see the child so fair?
Did they know He was the Savior,
come to free them from their sins?
Were they proud to be among the first
to greet and worship Him?
The shepherds must have trembled
at the brilliance of that star,
and yet been grateful for its light
that led them from afar.
The Kings brought gifts and Wise Men came
to bless the newborn child.
Were they touched, as they beheld Him,
by His countenance so mild?
Did Joseph, filled with love and reverence
marvel at Christ’s birth
and question what part he would play
in His sojourn on earth?
And Mary, what did Mary feel
to be His earthly mother?
Somehow, it seems she must have felt
the same as any other.
Full knowing her Son’s rightful place
was on a mighty throne,
how Mary must have blessed those moments
He was hers alone.
