Life is Golden
©2010 Susan Noyes Anderson (poem only)
Are we condemned to take our lives for granted?
Must loss be felt (or feared) before the joy?
Does gratitude grow stale when goodness gathers,
when all is well with every girl and boy?
These Thanksgiving poems express gratitude for home and hearth, friends and family, God and the good He continually does. Some are fun and some are faith-promoting. All are reminders that Thanksgiving is one of the very best times of the year. Are we condemned to take our lives for granted?
Must loss be felt (or feared) before the joy?
Does gratitude grow stale when goodness gathers,
when all is well with every girl and boy?
Though troubles come and troubles go
amidst this life of joy and tears,
while things we love and things we know
are sometimes lost to grief or fears;
I’m thankful for my mother, and
I’m thankful for my dad.
I’m thankful for my sisters, and
for all the fun we’ve had.
Our great grandparents knew about the harvest:
the months of labor gathered in with care…
the gratitude for every hard-earned blessing…
the love for home and hearth…the need to share.
We gather now before thee, Lord, united by our humble hearts
and bow our heads in gratitude for every gift that thou imparts
How excellent is thy name in all the earth
