The Proof Is in the Pudding

Age is the proof of the pudding in love.
I know for a fact this is true.
The years are the heat and the steam and the pressure
that set well or turn into glue.

Creamy or crusty, smooth or congealed,
love depends on the hands that are stirring.
Are they careful and steady, resolving with care
every lump at the time it’s occurring?

Or do careless hands falter and let the lumps form
then ignore them until they annoy?
Either like it or lump it; no one can do both –
and to try is to give up your joy.

So beat in the eggs, milk, vanilla, and sugar
then fold in the flour with finesse.
The outcome is yours; make the pudding you want.
Love takes effort, so give it your best!
