No Hands but Ours
©2009 Susan Noyes Anderson (poem only)
No soul could walk this earth alone
and still emerge believing.
The fertile ground for faith is found
in giving and receiving.
Writing “life lessons” poems is one of the ways I connect with and learn from life. They help me move myself through the inevitable ups and downs with as much grace as possible. And what better way to find grace than in the words of a poem? Thank you for gracing me with your presence here, and don’t forget to send a request my way before using my life lessons poems. No soul could walk this earth alone
and still emerge believing.
The fertile ground for faith is found
in giving and receiving.
To every heart, a wound must come;
no soul is free from this.
Some enemy or friend will deal
a blow that breaks your bliss.
If you can keep your head and not lose favor,
When adolescence makes its grand debut;
If you can trust yourself to never waiver,
And always keep an optimistic view;
Beauty cannot enter where we do not leave a friendly space.
Poems began as empty pages, masterpieces as a trace.
Every note must stand alone before it makes a lullaby.
Every tree has greater stature viewed against a naked sky.
At times, we look out on the world
and gain a clearer view,
but often we must fall to earth
to witness what is true.
I almost divorced my body
a couple of years ago.
Certainly, we were separated.
Irreconcilable differences.
The vertical blinds dissect
bright, broken patches of blue sky
and flowering trees of
verdant green,
color of life.
From now on
when I think of chemo
I will think of you
