Here’s to the Days

Here’s to the days when our smiles came easy,
bright against the morning sun…
days of soft winds, mild and breezy,
days that made our hearts feel young.

Innocence was ours to keep;
hope lived close at hand.
Darkness rarely fell soul-deep;
troubles turned to sand.

Here’s to the days when we stood together,
one for all and all for one;
days we dreamed would last forever…
years of plenty, just begun.

Storms swept in and old dreams flew.
You left us too soon.
Now we yearn for joys we knew,
lost beneath the moon.

Here’s to the days of our longing ended,
sweet reunion all around.
Here’s to the promise God extended:
loved ones rising, loved ones found.

On that day, our labors done,
we will stand once more…
in the light of His own Son
on His shining shore.

One for all and all for one;
together, as before.

Losing a family member, especially early, can also make us lose our innocence; but we do not have to lose our hope. Instead, we can look forward with as much patience as we can muster to a bright reunion. Until that time, we can continue to make joyful family memories. Of course, we will always long for those golden moments when our beloved family member was able to be a physical part of our circle, but we can be patient when we know and understand what is to come. Death does have its sting, but in the end, it has no victory. And that is a very great blessing.
