Power to the Patient!

Courage comes more easily,
when you still have a choice.
How can you show up brave if
you don’t even have a voice?
Are patients held in more disdain
the sicker that they get?
Does illness steal your power away,
or is it just forfeit?
One thing’s for sure: I feel unheard,
and that leaves me bereft.
When I’m unwell, my choice – my voice
is all that I have left.
My thoughts and feelings should be honored –
and my intuition.
This body’s mine; my instincts
should be part of each decision.
I’m half of the discussion here.
So hear me out; please do.
A patient needs respect; a patient
must be listened-to.
(rebellion coming soon)
