Evening falls like gentle rain
upon the weary day.
The colors fade, then flash once more
before they pass away.

The darkness brings tranquility,
a velvet peace of night,
rich blackness that is gently breached
by moon and starry light.

I love the silence sheathed in grays,
as purple shadows fall.
Each sacred sunset speaks of God,
Whose hand is over all.

“In silence the three of them looked at the sunset and thought about God.” – Maud Hart Lovelace

“There is no way in which a man can earn a star or deserve a sunset.”
– G. K. Chesterton
