Step by step, we come to Thee;
Thy light is a beacon for all to see.
I am an LDS poet, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Making these LDS poems (“Mormon” poems) available to others was one of my main reasons for creating this poetry site. People frequently asked me, “Do you have a poem for this…?” It seemed easier to place them all on a website where everyone could find exactly what they needed. Feel free to use these LDS poems in talks, lessons, programs or the like. Do be sure to include full copyright information on every hard or internet copy. Please email a request for permission before using one of my LDS poems. For internet use, a link back to this site is required. Thanks, and enjoy your visit!
FINDING THE POEM YOU WANT: As you scroll through this section, read each snippet sample (usually the first four lines) to get a feel for the poem’s content. When you find something you like, click “CONTINUE READING” to view the entire poem.
Step by step, we come to Thee;
Thy light is a beacon for all to see.
Lord how manifold are thy works;
We all have eyes to see.
The earth is full of thy riches;
Our hearts sing praise to thee.
Our great grandparents knew about the harvest:
the months of labor gathered in with care…
the gratitude for every hard-earned blessing…
the love for home and hearth…the need to share.
We gather now before thee, Lord, united by our humble hearts
and bow our heads in gratitude for every gift that thou imparts
How excellent is thy name in all the earth
Through priesthood power, the Holy Ghost descends.
This first gift of the Spirit is received
by those who are baptized, whose hearts believe
in Christ’s great plan and all that it portends.
I gave my friend a priceless gift.
She did not look inside.
She did not lift the lid to find
what treasures it might hide.

“Today, I was baptized,” the young boy said.
“Know what that means?
Dad put me underwater.
He said it would make me clean.
Stand as a witness, a witness of God,
for the world has lost sight of His glory.
The truth must go forward. The battle’s engaged.
Stand with Him; let your life tell His story.
