The vertical blinds dissect
bright, broken patches of blue sky
and flowering trees of
verdant green,
color of life.

The vertical blinds dissect
bright, broken patches of blue sky
and flowering trees of
verdant green,
color of life.
The day you killed me, I thought––What a drag––
and started making funeral arrangements.
I’d deal with all the requisite estrangements.
If dying was the task, then I’d die fine.
he loves her so much
then why does she feel
like that gardenia
the one that went unplanted
From now on
when I think of chemo
I will think of you

each element is real.
First you excavate, then analyze
exactly what you feel.
I never thought that I would call thee friend;
I could not trust another with my care.
No staunch companion who would still be there
Should I be forced my honor to defend.
We set up housekeeping in an open mine field.
No tanks. No sweepers. No safety.
Daffodils looked harmless, but traveled
in armies. Hyacinths took prisoners.
When I was a child, my very best thing
was to snuggle up warm under grandmother’s quilt.
Every patch was a memory, stitched up with love;
every square a reminder, painstakingly built,
