In Sacred Grove

In sacred grove, a young man knelt to pray,
a testament to his believing heart.
When darkness threatened, Joseph did his part
and trusted that his God would light the way.

The peaceful tinkle of a bell,
a sunrise dawning clear––
The Shepherd may not be in view,
but He is always near.

“I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and my angels round about you, to bear you up.” – D&C 84:88
“I am the good shepherd and know my sheep, and am known of mine.”
– John 10:14
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
– John 14:27
Step by step, we come to Thee;
Thy light is a beacon for all to see.
Lord how manifold are thy works;
We all have eyes to see.
The earth is full of thy riches;
Our hearts sing praise to thee.
Our great grandparents knew about the harvest:
the months of labor gathered in with care…
the gratitude for every hard-earned blessing…
the love for home and hearth…the need to share.
We gather now before thee, Lord, united by our humble hearts
and bow our heads in gratitude for every gift that thou imparts
How excellent is thy name in all the earth
Through priesthood power, the Holy Ghost descends.
This first gift of the Spirit is received
by those who are baptized, whose hearts believe
in Christ’s great plan and all that it portends.
I gave my friend a priceless gift.
She did not look inside.
She did not lift the lid to find
what treasures it might hide.
