girl-3
I never thought that I would call thee friend;
I could not trust another with my care.
No staunch companion who would still be there
Should I be forced my honor to defend.
And when an unknown ally did extend
A caring hand, my burden I’d not share;
But chose instead each heavy load to bear
Refusing solace lest it might offend.
I stood alone until you spoke my name
And touched my hand that summer of rebirth.
I steeled myself against the warming flame
To lose, rekindled by your love and mirth.
Into your upraised arms I captive came,
And pray that I might never fall to earth.
