hope in God

1st image by Chandler Cruttenden

Hope is a lark with joy-notes on –
rising up and taking wing –
warbling streams of sweet birdsong
to make even the sad heart sing.

Despair is flying on a prayer,
uncertain of the sultry sky,
beset by temperamental air
that sinks us low then lifts us high.

Are we but helpless bystanders
immersed in life’s unruly dance?
The wild wind blows; the water flows
unfettered, leaving much to chance.

Are we supposed to change these currents?
Where is a tranquil place to land?
Look upward.   Ask.   Let heaven answer.
Trust in our Heavenly Father’s plan.
