He left in his own
time, his chosen way.
I find in me
no spirit
to begrudge it.
(Though if I could
I’d nudge it far away.)
My world runs
gray, dabbles in
black as night.
Gone from my sight,
he took with him
the day.

The light is his
at last;
I cede it gladly.
Too long he
yearned,
no sun
upon his face.
God grant him
grace deserved,
sweet peace
unceasing…
a kinder place.
