Sharing the Burden

When my burden seems overlarge,
I flatter myself that I’m in charge.
Yet every cross was borne before
by One who comprehends much more
of trial and sorrow, grief and pain,
than I could ever hope to gain.
He carried weight I cannot know,
crossed lands where I need never go,
felt sadness I could not withstand.
When will I seek His loving hand?
My power alone is not enough
to break through when the path gets rough.
Henceforth, straining beneath the load,
I’ll join with Him and build a road.

“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30
